ATTACK ON WOMAN
CHARGE AGAINST YOUTH VICTIM ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL i Per United Press Association) DANNEVIRKE, Dec. 1. Maxwell Taylor, aged 18, was remanded this morning in the Magistrate’s Court on a charge of having, at Matamau yesterday, assaulted Una May Bernice France, causing actual bodily harm. Mrs France, the wife of a wellknown settler, Mr G. France, went into the garden in the afternoon to show Taylor what she wanted him to do in the garden. While she was bending down she was struck heavily on the head with a piece of pinus insignus about two feet long, and it is alleged that she was held down and struck further heavy blows, her scalp being severely injured and two bones in her left hsind broken. Mrs France, who is now in hospital, was alone at the time of the attack and frightened the youth into leaving. She then rang for a doctor, who informed the police and Taylor was arrested while cycling to town. He had been employed on the farm only five weeks. The reason for the attack is unknown.
