MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Otago Expansion League was held on Tuesday evening, the president (Mr G. J. Errington) occupying the cahir. Annual Conferences In connection with the resumption of the annual conferences of South Island progress leagues, a letter was received from the Southland League announcing its willingness to resume these annual gatherings. As it was the desire of the other bodies that the Southland League should arrange the meeting, it was suggested that Queenstown should be the meeting place and February, 1938, would be the most appropriate time. —The proposal was approved. Instructions were given to notify Southland of the Otago League’s co-operation. Further correspondence was read from the Minister of Railways (Mr D. G. Sullivan) regarding the smoke nuisance at Kensington and the steps taken by the department to allay it. These, it was stated, were proving satisfactory. Publicity in Australia The Tourist Department, Sydney, wrote enclosing the advertising lists for the month showing the extent to which the southern steamer connection was being kept before the public in Australia, and also the pictorial advertisements used to indicate the beauty and charm of the southern scenic resorts.—Members expressed pleasure at the completion of these displays, and expressed the opinion that the increased flow of visitors to the Dominion from Australia was mainly due to the publicity supplied from the department in Melbourne and Sydney.
