ADVERTISING MEAT

NEW ZEALAND'S EXAMPLE BRITISH TRADERS' COMPLIMENT (From Our Own Correspondbhi) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Oct. 2. So successful has the advertising policy of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board been in England that the British National Federation of Meat Traders' Associations adopted a resolution at its annual conference pledging itself to support a large and comprehensive scheme of advertising for meat as soon as arrangements can be made for all engaged in the production and. the marketing of meat to contribute. Mr H. W. Rymill, of Hastings, moving the resolution, said: "Some peopla believe that there is no value in advertising, but it cannot be denied that during the past four or five years there has been a great Increase In gress advertising of articles by largo usiness firms who have spent million* of pounds every year to advertise their products., Unless they were receiving a reasonable return for the money spent on advertising they would not continue to do so." Mr Rymill added that the New Zealand butchers, by their recent adverUo* ing scheme, had made New Zealand lamb so famous that it was now looked upon in millions of homes as the finest type of imported lamb. He suggested that £IOO,OOO spent over a period of years was the minimum amount which would show a reasonable return, and urged that this sum should be raised by a voluntary levy. Mr F. J. Troup, of London, opposing the resolution, said that if the schema were successful the meat-producing countries of the world would be unable to meet the annual extra demand, which he estimated, at 4,000,000 quarters of beef and more than 10,000,000 lambs. Mr C. A. Coggan, president of tha federation, said he was strongly in favour of the resolution, and estimated that it would not cost the association member more than lOd for every £IOO worth of meat sold. Mr H. Adams, treasurer of the federation, also supported the resolution, which was carried by a large majority;
