THE CLYDE TOWN TRUST

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—l read in your paper last Mqnday a letter by “ Plunge,” in which he (or maybe she in this case) decried the body in Clyde known as the Town Trust. This person complained about no members of the trust attending the first meeting that was called to discuss the erection of swimming baths at Clyde. Is it necessary for a member of the trust to attend such meetings? I think it is -the duty of the people who are going to benefit by the erection of baths to put the position before the trust at the meeting of this body. “ Plunge ” also“states that there were cnly three ratepayers in the tpwn who “ refused ” to “ flourish ” their signatures. I may add that was about all some people did, because they did not even inquire what they were signing. I know of at least five ratepayers whose signatures were not attached to the petition. One of these had not even been given the opportunity of looking at the petition. The house-to-house visit must, therefore, have been less thorough than stated. “ Plunge ” sneers at the “ progressive committee;” Naturally you cannot expect to get the best committee in the town if the townspeople do not attend the annual meeting of the trust, at which the trust is nominated. At the recent meeting I think there were no more than three people other than the members of the present trust. You cannot expect to appoint the best committee in the town if the annual meeting is attended so poorly. Seeing that it does not get much support from the public, I think the Town Trust fulfils its work most successfully.—l am, etc., Resident. Clyde, February 2
