FLOOD TERROR
POSITION AT CAIRO SEA WALL MAY COLLAPSE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MONTREAL, Feb. 2. The authorities at Cairo are now aghast at the possibility of the 63ft sea wall being undermined. Miniature geysers have appeared in the streets, and emergency squads have dumped thousands of sandbags into the holes. The city has been evacuated, with the exception of the ablebodied men, 6000 of whom are working day and night to maintain the wall. THAW IN OREGON NEW YORK, Feb. 3. (Received Feb. 4, at 1 a.m.) President Roosevelt has issued an executive order permitting gifts of clothing and food supplies from other nations to enter the United States free of duty. The Minister for the Dominican Republic presented a cheque for 20,000 dollars; contributions from his country. A thaw is beginning in Oregon and the rivers are rising, with a danger of floods. ROYAL SYMPATHY (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Feb. 2. The King and Queen have sent a message to President Roosevelt expressing sympathy with him and the American people in connection with the serious situation arising from tl»; Mississippi floods.
