ST. JOHN'S PARISH

SOCIAL FUNCTION Last Wednesday evening a parish social was held to mark the silver jubilee of the vicar's (Bishop Fitchett) induction to the parish of St. John, R'oslyn, and also to extend a welcome home to Mrs Fitchett and Miss Olga Fitchett on their return from a visit to Britain. There was a large attendance of parishioners, and most of the citv vicars and their wives were present. After an hour of trump whist a short programme was provided by members of the choir. . The Very Rev. Dean Cruickshank conveyed congratulations to his Lordship and Mrs Fitchett and family on behalf of the city vicars, and Mr W E. Earnshaw (vicar's warden) extended on behalf of the parishioners a welcome home to Mrs Fitchett and Miss Olga Fitchett, and conveyed thanks to Miss Stella Fitchett for the able way she had acted as vicarage hostess during her mother's absence. He also thanked all members of the vicar's family for the great interest they always took in the welfare of the parish church. Mrs Buchler. on behalf of the women of the parish, presented Mrs Fitchett with a posy, and extended to her a happy welcome home. Mr John Simpson (parishioners' warden) extended to Bishop Fitchett and Mrs Fitchett and family the congratulations and good wishes of the parishioners on the occasion of the silver jubilee of his induction to the cure of Roslyn, and on behalf of the parishioners he presented to the vicar and Mrs Fitchett a canteen of cutlery suitably inscribed to mark the happv anniversary. Bishop Fitchett, in the course of his reply, thanked the parishioners for their congratulations and goodwill and for the gift made to Mrs Fitchett and himself. He referred briefly to his work in the parish and diocese during the past 25 years, and referred to the many acts of kindness that had been bestowed upon him and his family during that period. At the conclusion of Bishop Fitchett's remarks he and his family were accorded musical honours.
