AN AUSTRIAN AMNESTY

FOR SOCIALISTS AND NAZIS A PROMISE FULFILLED LONDON, June 9. (Received June 9, at 11.15 p.m.) The News Chronicle’s Vienna correspondent says the Government has granted an amnesty to all political prisoners condemned to no more than five years’ imprisonment. This applies to both Socialists and Nazis, and accords with Dr Sehuschnigg’s promise, when he put out Prince Starhemberg, to introduce a more moderate and conciliatory policy, by which he is hoping to widen the basis of support by winning the goodwill of workers and the moderate proGerman element. It is stated that the amnesty was also designed to help the Chancellor to establish more cordial relations with France and Britain.
