OPOHO PRESBYTERIANS

THE REV. H. HOGG INDUCTED The Presbytery of Dunedin met in Opoho Church last evening for the induction of the Rev. H. Hogg, who has been called from the charge of Weston (North Otago). The Rev. D. N. M'Kcnzie presided as moderator, and there was a good attendance of members. There being no reply to the usual challenge to objectors, the presbytery adjourned to the church, which was filled almost to capacity. The moderator conducted public worship, and the Rev. C. M. Sullivan (Caversham) preached from Matthew xvi, 18: “On this rock I will build My church.” Many people seemed apathetic about the Church, he said, and were critical enough, but practically no one desired its abolition. The Rev. A. C. W. Standage (interim moderator of the charge) narrated the steps taken to fill the vacancy occasioned liy the transfer of the Rev. C. G. Wilcox to Eastbourne (Wellington) last October. The Selection Committee asked Mr Hogg to preach, which he did on February 2. the resultant being a hearty call from the congregation. The questions were then put by the moderator, and after the induction prayer Mr Hogg received the right hand of fellowship from the presbytery. The Rev. N. E. Oakley (North-East Valley) addressed both minister and congregation, stressing the relative duties of the two parties in the union now consummated. He congratulated the congregation on its status having been raised so that for the first time in its history it had called a minister. He wished a happy and fruitful pastorate to the newlyinducted minister. As the congregation dispersed, Mr Hork was introduced to After mission work in South America. Mr Hogg went through his studies at the Theological Hall, and has held pastorates in Waitahuna. Winton, and Weston.
