NOVEL MAGNET
Road hazards in the form of scrap metal which throated motorists are being removed in Michigan, U.S.A., by means of a cruising road magnet. This novel magnet costs about Is Gd a mile to operate, and covers au average of 42 miles a day. Built by the Highway Department, the machine is eight feet wide, 11 feet long, and six feet high. It is drawn behind a truck. The metal objects picked up are tipped a hopper, and in the short time in which it has been in operation it has collected about half a ton of scrap metal, ranging from scissors to tobacco tins.
