Queen of Song Queen of Song did not look quite at her best when produced at Trentham. pile was a bit sore on the first day and springing a winter coat detracted from her appearance. Light and Lean Lordly Knight was as light as the proverbial feather in condition when produced at Trentham, and despite the fact ran a really good race when Rereatu beat hiip in the Suburban Handicap, The Oamaru Meeting More than' usual interest is being taken in the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting, which is to take place to-morrow and on Monday, satisfactory fields are engaged in the various events and should provide some interesting sport. , Shy The Valkyrian gelding Shy did not shape up to expectations on the final day at Tftentham. An interesting feature of the betting on the Champion Hack Handicap run at Trentham consisted in the fact that some horses were expected to do rather better than they did during the earlier part ot the meeting. They were apparently expected to improve with a race and go better than previous form suggested. Rice for Racehorses

It is mentioned by a London writer that M. D. Blair, who has a fairly large team in England, is a great believer in boiled rice in feeding his horses. He says that, when added to other cereals in proportion, he has found it most efficacious. In plating his jumpers for racing, Blair does not go beyond the forefe'et. Touching on this he said: All ray horses run barefooted behind, as I rely on Nature. The frog of the horse s foot enables him to get all the necessary purchase of the ground that he requires. Attention to Track# During the Trentham meetings a motor with wide wheels serving the purpose ot rollers pushes levelling boards in front, and so turns back the hoof holes made during the running of a race. Inis keeps the track with a good surface tor each race, whereas the majority of tracks can be chopped about but receive no attention until the conclusion of a card. A hole half an inch deep can unbalance or break down a horse, and perhaps create no end of trouble. It seems to be overlooked that during a stride a horses front leg sustains the full weight oi body and rider, and if the edge ot a hole is struck a breakdown occurs. Yet the fact remains that some tracks are used without anything like adequate attention.
