OTAGO YACHT ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF DELEGATES A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last night, there being present Messrs E. T. Moller (president), H. M. Nees, E. 0. Yates. W. Webber, C. Pettet, W. P. Gourlick, W. 0. Martin, T. Anderson, G. Tuckey, and A. Burt (secretary). The secretary reported that the sum of £64 16s 8d had been received by the association in the form of donations, and £OS 12s 6d had been spent in the Sanders Cup and Corwell Cup contests. The association now had a bank balance of £ll 19s 8d. —The chairman expressed gratification at the fact that the association was now out of debt and had a small credit balance.

Mr W. (Rowlands (North-East Harbour) waited on the association with the request that something be done to bring about a better arrangement of the racing syllabus for the coming season. The Macandrew Bay Club had been deprived of two of its best club days through the holding of two regattas, notice of which had not been received when the syllabus had been drawn up. The club have no grudge against the Regatta Committees, but it suggested that the association should call a meeting of delegates from the various clubs and invite representatives of the regatta committees to be present, so that arrangements could lie made for next year’s syllabus, to prevent any clashing of fixtures. He also suggested that regatta committees should be represented on the association, which would then be in a position to control all racing on the harbour. At the present time the sport was slipping back in Otago, and it was the duty of the controlling body to try and rectify matters. If a meeting such as he suggested were successful it would be worth the effort, but, if not, then the future of the sport did not appear to be very promising. The president said that it was all a question whether the association.- could command the loyalty of all the clubs in Otago. He explained that one of Vthe regattas which had interfered with the Macandrew Bay Club’s races had been arranged after the association had drawn up the syllabus for the season. Mr Rowlands said that if the association did not call the meeting the Macau-, drtw Bay Club would. After some further discussion it was decided to call a meeting, at which representatives of the regatta committees would be invited to be present, before the syllabuo for next season was drawn up-
