Ministerial. The Minister of Public Works (Mr Semple) received several deputations at Queenstown yesterday morning, and in the afternoon left for Cromwell, performing the official opening of the Central Otago Power Board’s Roaring Meg scheme en route. The Minister attended a banquet at Cromwell in the evening ti celebrate the completion of the scheme. This morning he will leave for Maniototo, where he will inspect the site of the proposed irrigation scheme, and will later motor through to Christchurch. Major W. I. K. Jennings, D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., who has been visiting the artillery camp at Sutton, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr C. M. Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner, concluded a visit to Dunedin yesterday, when he left for the north by the through express. Mr W. Easton and Mr C. Stanley Smith left for Wellington by the through express yesterday to attend a meeting of directors of the United Press Association. A Press Association cablegram from London states that Captain D. T. Maixwell, of New Zealand* attended the first levee of King Edward’s reign at Buckingham Palace. Mr W. Appleton, of Wellington, has been appointed chairman of the Wellington City Adjustment Commission during the absence from the N Dominion of Mr C. D. Morpeth. A Press Association cable message from London states that the Marquis of Hartington will attend the South Australian centenary provided there is no unexpected development in the political situation in the meantime. He will be accompanied by his wife. The town clerk (Mr G. A. Lewin) resumed duty yesterday after a visit to the North Island. He attended the recent Municipal Conference at Napier, and conferred on other municipal business in Wellington A Press Association cablegram from London states that Lady Angela Montague Douglas Scott, a sister and bridesmaid to the Duchess of Gloucester, is affianced to Lieutenant-commander Peter Dawnay, who is going to New Zealand in May as flag lieutenant. . Another resignation by a Minister of the Crown from local government is in prospect. It was mentioned by the Minister of Education (Mr P. Fraser) last night (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington) that within a comparatively short time he would be resigning from the Wellington City Council. Advice has been received in Dunedin that Mr Denis Dowling, who left'last year for England to further his musical studies, was successful recently in winning the first gentlemen’s solo at the London Musical Festival, which is conducted annually on similar lines to the local Competitions. Mr Dowling is at present studying under Mr Dawson Frere, of the Royal College of Music, London. At the twenty-ninth annual conference of the Federation of Master Printers of New Zealand held in Wellington the following officers were elected: —President, Mr H.< Harris (Dunedin); vice-president, Mr U. C. Jacobs (Auckland); immediate pastpresident, Mr A. Dennison (Auckland); executive —Messrs E. Aldridge (Auckland), H. Coull (Wellington), E. Darroch (Timaru), H. W. Lattey (Wellington), W. J. Pnlaraontain (Wairarnpa), T. Somerville (Dunedin), J. Stout (Christchurch)., and J. F. Thom (Invercargill). The Union airliner Korimako left Taieri airport at 11.30 n.m. yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mrs D. Finnigan, Mr W. L. Gray, for Christchurch, Mr A. E. King for Blenheim, thence by Cook Strait Airways to Wellington, and Flying Officer C. M. Duthie for Palmerston North. The Karoro arrived at Taieri at 12.50 p.m. from Palmerston North, via Blenheim and Christchurch, with Messrs Graham Dickson and S. E. Holland from Christchurch.
