UNSUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE

CHINESE AND EUROPEAN DECREE NISI GRANTED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 19. An unsuccessful marital venture of a Chinese with a European woman was outlined to Mr Justice tail' in the Supreme Court this morning, when George Wong Yew sought a divorce fiom Edith Helen Yew on the ground of misconduct. The petitioner, who described himself as a merchant, said that he was married at Palmerston North in 1929 and later moved to Auckland. He had a trip to China, returning to Auckland and remaining there till 1933, when the respondent left for Hongkong. It was arranged that the husband should join her there the following year. The petitioner gave her £l4O. When he was about to leave for Hongkong he received a letter from his wife stating that she did not wish to live with him again. In a subsequent letter stated she had been having a hectic life and had decided long ago that it was not possible for them to live together again. She also admitted misconduct. Mr F. W. Schramm, for the petitioner, said the respondent had refused to give the name of the co-respondent. Leave having been granted to dispense with the naming of the co-respondent, counsel asked for a decree nisi. His Honor agreed to accept certain affidavits, and granted the decree.
