AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE The monthly meeting of the Otago Centre, New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, was held last evening in the Returned Soldiers’ Rooms. Mr G. L. Tapley presided over a large attendance of delegates. Before the business of the evening the president welcomed Mr J. G. Barnes, delegate for the newly-formed Drummond Amateur Athletic Club. , CORRESPONDENCE. Application was received from the secretary of the Otago University Amateur Athletic Club for permission to hold the annual interfaculty sports at Logan Park on March 28.—The application was granted, and it was also decided to lend the flag pole and pennants for the meeting. The. secretary of the Waikouaiti Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club wrote asking permission to stage a _ sports meeting on Easter Monday, April 13. — Permission was granted, and the programme was approved. The secretary of the Palmerston Amateur Athletic Club wrote asking for permission to hold a sports meeting on Anniversary Day, March 23. —Permission was granted and "'the programme was approved.—lt was decided to appoint Mr W. Johnson to represent the Otago Centre.
Mr A. T. M'lndoe wrote advising that he had notified his club that he did not wish to seek re-election as a delegate ’ to the Otago Centre, and extended his good wishes to the officials and members of the centre—Mr J. Gerken, in moving that Mr M'lndoe’s resignation be accepted, expressed regret at the loss of an old and esteemed member of the centre. —Mr C. W. Clark said that it was indeed unfortunate to lose the services of Mr M'lndoe, who was always reliable and whose advice was ever welcome. His assistance, especially in the Port Road Race, would be missed. —It w r as decided to write to Mr M'lndoe regretting his decision and thanking him for his past services. ‘ An application for reinstatement was received from William R- Bellaney, Konini. —It was decided to forward the application to the New Zealand Council with a favourable recommendation. Applications were received from B. A. Brown for transfer from the Hanover Baptist Harrier and A. A. Club to the Civil Service Harrier and A. A. Club, and D. V. Scott for transfer from the Roslyn Harrier Club to the Leith Harrier and A. A. Club. —Granted. Letters were received from the secretaries of the Otago Boxing Association. Wellington Centre, Otago branch, of the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Association, New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and,Mr F. M, Reid, delegate to the New Zealand Council, congratulating the centre on the manner in which the New Zealand championships were controlled and in winning the shield and the Speight Cnp. GENERAL. The secretary of the Blazer Committee reported that applications for Otago blazers had been received from H. Ramsay and H. Tyrie.—lt was decided to grant permission to the applicants. The following members were appointed for. the Harrier Sub-committee: —Messrs C. W. Clark, B. R. M'Kcrnan, H. Thomson, J. Gerken, J. A. Bond, C. Pope, J. G. Barnes, A. Price, and C. K. Heaton. Mr Gerken was appointed secretary. On account of the difficulty experienced by several members of the Otago team for the Canterbury-Otago scratch meeting to be held in Christchurch on Saturday, March 21, it was decided to write to the Canterbury Centre regretting that a first-class team was not available, and suggesting that the meeting be held over until next season.
The president congratulated the members of the Otago team who had made such a fine effort in winning the Athletic Shield at the New Zealand championships. Members of the centre were also thanked for their assistance in the control of the meeting.
