Voting at the poll for members of the Wanganui Licensing Committee recently was slow throughout the clay, and the lot of the poll clerks was an unenviable one. At one suburban booth (says the Chronicle) the two clerics averaged about one voter every 20 minutes, and found the day a long and weary one. An interesting feature of the voting was that 34 informal votes were recorded in 796 papers, compared with 49 informal voles at the general election, when 9627 votes were recorded. After a period of 10 years without an election and 12 nominations for the five seats on the committee, it was expected that considerable interest would be taken, and a far larger poll was anticipated. However, the voting was considerably lighter than at the last poll, when 1026 votes were cast.
