TAIERI FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING There was a lai'ge attendance at the annual meeting of the Taieri Football Club. The retiring president (Mr J. M'Gregor) occupied the chair. Moving the adoption of the annual report, the chairman referred to the financial position. He said that members would be pleased to note that the .position had improved materially, the balance carried forward amounting to £8 more than the amouut brought forward from the previous year, while the sum of £9 10a had been spent on the installation of water at the No. 2 ground. As this was a non-recurring item, the position had really improved to the extent of approximately £lB for the year, and in view of the financial position of the club in past years, this must be accounted very satisfactory. Dealinc with the football playing aspect of .the club's activities, he said that the past season had been one of the most successful in the cuib's history. The senior team finished the season fourth on the ladder, despite the fact that it suffered some very narrow defeats. He was pleased to note the improvement, particularly among the younger players, during the season, which certainly gave a great deal of confidence for the future. In this connection he felt that the selectors had acted very wisely in bringing m young local players of obvious football ability. The results certainly justified their actions. This policy of promoting the younger players had a twofold advantage, in that local players might have the opportunity of showing their ability and be thus encouraged, and, in addition, in the long run, a better combination would thus be built up. During the past season the club had been without the services of three of its most outstanding players—namely, Messrs J. Findiay, C. Finlayson, and W. Bathgate. These players had represented the province for upwards of the last 10 years, and, in addition, they had been the mainstay of the senior team for a longer period, and he wished to express appreciation of the outstanding services which these three players had rendered to the club. The Knott Cup would be held for the coming season by the senior team. He congratulated Mr Ron. M'Skimming on again representing his province, and expressed thanks to the Borough Council for tho assistance in the way of maintaining the ground, etc. The conduct of the players on the field had been exemplary. The Second Grade team had shown promise, but owing to the drain on members to fill vacancies, through accidents, in the senior team had suffered considerably. The Fourth Grade team turned up well to games, and upheld the honour of the club. Mr Hartstonge, who seconded the motion, made special reference to the work of the secretary, and endorsed all that the chairman had said. The selectors had acted wisely in bringing torward young players. Mr William Allan supported the motion. The annual report and balance sheet called for congratulation. Members had taken a keen interest, in the club. Ho congratulated the senior team on its achievements of last season.

The report was adopted. On the chairman's suggestion, a new office was added—that of patron—and Mr William Allan was unanimously chosen to fill it.
