DUNEDIN GARDENING CLUB
HOLLINGWORTH CHALLENGE TROPHY. The Gardening Club met on Tuesday evening, where there were a good attendance. The president (Mr J. Passmore) occupied the chair. The third competition for the F. H. Holling worth Memorial Challenge trophy was held for the best display of flowers and vegetables, the space not to exceed 24 square feet. Owing to tlie unfavourable weather conditions, the number of exhibitors was considerably reduced. The result was as follows: Miss Ruby Anderson, 25 points, 1; Mrs M'Gregor and Mrs J. Railton, 22 points, equal 2. The president congratulated the exhibitors on the quality of their exhibits, which, considering the weather conditions, were wonderfully clean and fresh. The vegetables were good prepared for show, and the whole exhibits were artistically arranged. They showed good and careful cultivation. Mr John Whyte acted as judge.
It was decided to hold the annual picnic at Woodside Glen on Saturday next, and to hold an indoor meeting on March 24.
There were on exhibition by members some fine examples of the season's flowers, amongst which were sweet pens by Mrs Jack and Mrs White, begonias and dahlias by Mr J. Passmore, dahlias by Mesdames Rissman, Doodeward, Woodbury, and Miss Nolan, and roses and vegetables by Mr Walter Blackburn.
