Warrington) pleaded not guilty to a charge of being the owner of a savage dog.—According to Sergeant O'Shea two boys, Ivan Raymond Fletcher, aged 13 years, and Raymond Douglas Rowley, aged nine, wery walking along Maclaggan street on February 1. They saw the dog, an Alsatian, which approached to within about a yard of the boys and then ilew at them. Rowley was bitten on the leg and Fletcher was bitten on the right arm. — The defendant said in evidence that he did not think the boys were bitten. The dog was very quiet and had never given anv trouble.—The charge was dismissed under section 22 of the Dog Registration Act, on condition that the defendant paid the costs (245). The magistrate ordered that the dog should not be allowed off tho premises where it was usually kept, unless on a leash. CHARGE OF ASSAULT. Arthur. Wells, aged 19 years, was charged with assaulting Stuart Robert Ovens in Fairfax street on February 29. Mr R. C. Rutherford appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.—Outlining the facts of the case, Sergeant O'Shea said Ovens and two boys were cycling along Fairfax street when they were accosted by four men, including the defendant. They had been released, but the defendant had run out and seized the handlebars of Ovens's cycle, causing him to crasli into the gutter. Ovens had received injuries to his leg and had been left unconscious until picked up by a passer-by.—Stuart Robert Ovens stated that Wells had thrown him deliberately and without provocation. In his opinion the four men were under the influence of liquor.—Wells, in evidence, stated that the boys had passed impertinent remarks about him. In order to check Ovens for his behaviour he had walked on to the road and beckoned him to stop. Ovens swerved and the cycle skidded into tho gutter.—Mr Bundle adjourned the case for two years on condition that Wells paid witnesses' expenses (15s) within 14 days. The accused could be brought before the court for sentence at any time during that period if his behaviour were not satisfactory. Mr Bundle stated that Wells, while slightly under the influence of liquor, had acted as he had under a sense of injustice caused by the remarks of the boys, but he was convinced that the accused had been the cause of the accident. The youth had not come under the notice of the police before, and, to give him a chance, to make good, he would not enter a conviction.
