THE WELLINGTON MEETING

PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY

REKEATU AND HAUT MONDE. (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, March 13. The final trials for Trentham were conducted this morning under ideal conditions and the course proper on the outer waa freely availed of by several visitors. The going was excellent. Most of the work was confined to sprinting and these were smart efforts by Variant, Rereatu, Hunting Mars, Entail, Haut Monde, Laughing Lass, Karl, Custos, Pelmet, and Birthday Party. The half in 48Jsec by Hunting Mars was the best early effort for time, but Fracas 49Jsec (easily], Rival Shot 50sec, and Wild Chase and Top Notch three down the straight was all good work. Variant and Roaming, the latter having the inside running, ran six in lmin 17£sec, the last half in 49sec. They finished together and both pleased. They pulled up well also and although Variant has missed a little fast work in the south owing to the weather she should not be far from her best.

Blue Tiger ran six in lmin 23sec the last half in 51sec.

Green Shepherd and Davolo paired over seven in lmin 34sec, the last half in 53sec, and both were going well at the finish. So far no rider has been engaged for Davolo. Wagner and Martial Lady went down to near the five furlongs and started off well in front of it to sprint home down the straight. No time could be taken, but they were both ridden out. At the end of a solid work-out Wagner had it on the filly. He looks well and fit. Queen of Song accompanied Double Gift down to the half and the two-year-old then sprinted home alone in 48Jsec, doing it well. Queen of Song paced round again to the seven and then ran home at a strong pace. She did not show any soreness later. Silver Streak was given an easy gallop over five furlongs Despite his hard Deason he never looked better. Custos and Pelmet had a great battle over five furlongs, bbth being ridden right out over the last couple of furlongs. Custos, who had the autside running, drew up to head the filly at the post, but she was doing it just as well as he was. The last half was run in 48isec, and it was a good effort. Silver Jest and Invoice sprinted three furlongs down the straight. Silver Jest went well and appears to have improved since he was here in January. Revival was of no use to Friesland at the end of half a mile in 50sec. the Hawera horse drawing away. Rereatu ran six in lmin 17sec, the last half in 49sec. He galloped graudly all the way and finished well. Though he carried a light-weight it was brilliant work and no horse has galloped better on the tracks. Entheos and Clarion Call did strong work together, Entheos doim: it well. Imposture and Moquette. 49sec for four, and Kotou alone eix in lmin 20sec, shaped satisfactorily, and Senior was not doing his best by any means for a light boy in lmin 22sec. Entail, with his trainer up, was doing it much better than Spiral at the end of six furlongs in lmin ISAfee, while Rust finished several lengths away. Spiral and Rust blew very hard after the gallop. Entail impressed by the way he worked and finished. Laughing Lass, with her trainer in the saddle, sprinted brilliantly over four furlongs in 48$see, Gay Chief finishing three or four lengths away, but: (Jay Chief is not a eood track worker. Laughing Lass went well, for she was carryinc plenty of weight. Karl recorded 48sec for a half, and Mandamus 49sec, both coing well, but the tracks were cetting faster all the time.

Birthdav Party went up to the fivefurlong barrier, and from a stand behind the start she ran home comfortably in lmin 31see. She carried F. Waddell, and could have done better. This is a crood filly.

Haut Monde, under a light weight, put up a good six in lmin 17sec. He has improved since Woodville.

P. Atkins will do most of the riding for F. Davis's stable. The prospects for the meeting are excellent, the weather bein;: set fair and the tracks will be in first-class order. No decision had been reached this afternoon regarding Bereatu. but it is likely that he will take on the mile. No horse has worked better than lie haR. and his elinnee in whichever race he mips is first class;. Southerners fancy Silver Streak and

Cranford in the sprint. Cranford was a, bit sore after work this morning, but it wore off.
