PALMERSTON AUTUMN FLOWER SHOW

NOTEWORTHY EXHIBITS The Palmerston and Waihemo Autumn Flower Show was held in the Town Hall, Palmerston, on Friday, March 6. Despite the adverse season, the show proved most successful. Mr Rhodes (Dunedin), the judge of the cut flowers section, commented favourably on the asters and roses, while some very fine dahlias were exhibited. Palmerston is particularly fortunate in having in the district one of the best amateur rose growers in Otago, who has won repeatedly the Otago Amateur Championship and numerous other honours in the rose world. Mr Ewing, judge of the decorative work, remarked on the bowl of flowers section (bold effect). Some excellent entries were forward, all the exhibits being well arranged and nicely staged. The dining room table section was of a very high order. The bouquets and baskets left little to be desired. The children’s section was up to the usual good standard. The judge suggests that the society should endeavour to get the children to try working small flowers into colour schemes —they are very effective and the children would learn the arrangement of flowers. The following are the results: — Arthur Yates and Co., most points in cut flowers —Mrs Stenhouse. Arthur Yates and Co., most points in vegetables—W. Arnott.
