LOVE OF ADVENTURE

LURE OF THE ANTARCTIC MR ELLSWORTH STILL UNSATISFIED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 7. After six expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic the enthusiasm of Mr Lincoln Ellsworth for voyaging in the Polar regions is as keen as ever. When he passed through Auckland on the Mariposa to-day on his way to California he said he wanted to get out of cities and away from civilisation. "I would certainly like to go back to the South Pole regions, or even to the Arctic." Mr Ellsworth said. " but I am making no plans. I have no proposals for the _ future. What I should like to do would be to tackle the Antarctic from the other side, going in from Enderby Land. It contains vast unexplored regions which I should like to traverse. If I do go south I shall probably consider flying from the Bay of Whales to Enderby Land, but I suppose the idea will-have to remain a dream.. • . . ■•' " My recent flight across Antarctica, Mr Ellsworth said, "shows the possibility of the exploration of the territory by air. We landed four times, and it was not difficult to land or take off. The planes that will be used for Polar exploration in the future will carry dogs and all the necessary equipment, so that they will be able to land practically anywhere, enabling the explorers to carry on surveys and clear up all the problems that are yet unsolved." Mr Ellsworth, who was met during the forenoon by the Minister of Justice (Mr W. E. Parry), expressed his gratitude to the Government'and the people of New Zealand for assisting in the.search for himself arid Mr Kenyon. He said he would like to have gone to Wellington, but he had been unable to get an earlier boat from Australia. If he stayed now it would mean a month's delay. He was fond of New Zealand, and felt a deep sense of gratitude, for the help extended to him in his time of need.
