ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS AN INVITATION WITHDRAWN LONDON, March 5. (Received March 5, at 10 p.m.) References to Nazi ill-treatment of distinguished scholars was made by Sir Farquhar Buzzard while addressing the Oxford convocation. Referring to the rejection of Heidelberg's invitation to the anniversary celebrations he declared that the endeavour to make the anniversary an occasion for universal rejoicing was psychologically ill-timed. All were anxious to strengthen the hands of those Germans who deplored, however silently, the prevailing political inquisition. , The Morning Post's Berlin correspondent says: "Himself a party to the dismissal of 44 professors and lecturers for political reasons, the Nazi rector of the Heidelberg University sent a letter to the British universities withdrawing the invitation on the ground that a number of English personages confused politics with academic celebrations.
