According to official returns prepared in Ottawa, the number of persons employed in Canada on November 1 stood at a higher figure than at any time since December 1, 1930. The gain during October was 14,803, and at the end of that month 9482 firms making returns had on their pay rolls 1,012,103 persons. There were important advances in lumbering, highway and building construction, mining, retail trade, and manufacturing.
