HINTS THAT WILL HELP

To rid the pine tables of all traces of grease and to keep the wood white add one dessertspoonful spirits of salts to a gallon of clear, warm water and scrub the table with it. No soap is required, buc rinse the hands well after using, and rub with a little olive oil. Home-made putty, is quite easily made by mixing unslaked lime with hot glue. The quantities vary, as doc.;; the quality of the glue, but add glue to the lime until you have obtained the right consistency. If coloured putty is required, the colour desired should be mixed with some dry whiting, and then both added to the lime and glue. When making melon jam boil seeds and green rind in a little water for 1} hours, strain off the liquid, add to the jam, and boil in the usual way. The jam will jell beautifully. A pinch of cayenne to a boiling of melon jam is a great improvement also.
