CONSTRUCTION BY CITY COUNCIL \ GENERAL COMMITTEE’S PROPOSAL A poll of ratepayers on a proposal to raise a loan to bhild new tepid swimming baths is visualised by the General Committee of the City Council. No mention is made of the cost of the proposed work, but full information on the subject is to be gathered by the committee. . At Monday night’s meeting of the City Council the committee will report having received a communication from the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association in which the request is made that the council take into early consideration the question of constructing new tepid swimming baths on modern lines to replace the existing baths in Moray place. The committee is of the opinion that the proposal should be advanced if at all possible, and therefore recommends that, in the meantime, steps be taken to gather all requisite information and estimates for an up-to-date tepid swimming pool and appurtenances, with a view to. a poll being taken on a proposal to raise a loan to cover the cost of the proposed work. . The Otago Swimming Centre has intimated that it is prepared to obtain from leading authorities in other countries details of essential requirements and lay-out of a swimming pool designed to comply with present-day requirements. _____
