JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE
SUCCESSFUL GARDEN FETE Despite the threatening weather conditions on Saturday afternoon, there was an attendance of over 500 at the garden fete and bazaar which was held in tha John M'Glashan College grounds, and the effort, which was launched by the Grounds Committee to raise funds for improvements to the school grounds, was gratifyingly successful. The members of the committee were Mrs H. L. Cook and Messrs A. C. Cameron, J. M. Eraser, R. Lee, and R. G. C. M'Nab. Under the direction of this committee, everyone connected with the school—the Board of Governers, the parents, the old boys, the staff and the pupils—worked wholeheartedly to support the fete and had the weather been favourable the result would have been even more encouraging. No effort was spared to offer the visitors novel entertainments, and to this end members of the Old Boys' Association had undertaken the management of the games. These were of every description, from tne usual Aunt Sally to an amusement called " ringing the bottle." Nail-driving competitions, under the supervision of Dr Stuart Moore, were popular throughout the day and the various skittle alleys and other attractions were equally well patronised. Pony ricfes were very popular with the children, and everyone took a keen interest in a tortoise, reputed to be over 150 years old, which was on exhibition. . A complete moving picture show was installed in Balmacewen House and this was under the charge of Messrs J. M. Fraser, Hugh Neill and S. D. Blomfield. The stalls were conducted by the following : _Work stall—Mrs R. G. C. M'Nab and lady members of the school staff; produce stall, Mrs A. R. Falconer and Mrs W. H. Borrie; book stall, Mrs Mackie Begg; plant and flower stall, Mrs H. L. Cook and Mrs James Begg; cake stall, Mrs J. M. Stevenson; sweet stall, Mrs H. D. Skiriner; afternoon tea, Mrs C. O.
