HECTIC FINAL DAY

MR COATES IN LONDON SERIES OF CONFERENCES (Supplied and Release!! by the New Zealand Government.) LONDON, July 21. Mr Coates had an extremely busy time during the last three or four days in London. The last day was particularly hectic. In the morning before 9 o’clock he had a conference with the representatives of Australia and South Africa in regard to proposals to improve the consumption and market outlook for wool. He then proceeded to Tooley street, where at the office of the New Zealand Dairy Board he met a number of representatives of the butter trade and discussed matters of moment. His next engagement was at the Board of Trade, where he had important discussions regarding future trade relations with cer-

tain foreign countries, especially in view of the recent customs proposals by one nation. Late in the afternoon he had a three-hour talk with Mr Elliot, having the previous day had a similar engagement with Mr Baldwin at Downing street. Then at 11 p.m. he had a final half-hour conference with the New Zealand Meat Board representatives, and just before midnight saw a deputation of persons interested in the promotion of the construction of the Napier-Gisborne railway, headed by Mr Lysnar. His departure from Waterloo station was at 9 a.m. next morning. A large crowd of New Zealanders and British Government representatives bade the Minister and Mrs Coates farewell and heartily cheered them as the train, pulled out.
