THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM A PECULIAR SITUATION SYDNEY, July 22. Mr R. P. Heathwood,. secretary of the Amateur Athletic Association, when informed that New. Zealand was sending a team to compete at the Austral iany 10,000 Metres Cross-country Championship, said; “ I have heard nothing officially. Why are they coming? They are debarred under the race conditions from securing any of the honours.” ADVICE OF VISIT SENT (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, -July 22. The cable message from Mr Heathwood regarding the visit of a New Zealand cross-country team to Australia was referred to-day to Mr H. M‘Cormick, secretary of the- New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, who said he was at a loss to understand the first part of the cablegram. Mr M’Connick stated that Mr Heathwood had been advised that a team was being sent, and a reply had been received from Mr Heathwood. As for the second part of the message, that was' 1 correct, and the position was known by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. It had been pointed out at the last meeting of the council of the N.Z.A.A.A. that the members of the New Zealand team, in the event of being successful, would be unable to take the honours.
