NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special to Daily Times; CHRISTCHURCH, July 22. Although this morning’s track work at Riccarton was only of the useful pacing order, a couple of jumpers provided variety. They -were Mr A. Symes’s pair, Royal Limond and Heather Glow, and the owner was out to see them schooled. It was expected that Royal Limond would have ' a couple of mates, but the other trainers changed their plans, so he went by himself. Ridden by D. O’Connor, he cleared the first fence at the back in good style, but ran off at the sod wall. When taken back he jumped it well, and then went on to complete two circuits. He was a trifle careful at the sod wall next time, though he went at it straight and Otherwise gave a fine exhibition. It is intended to school him again on Wednesday, when lie will have the improving Monastic as a mate. Heather Glow went twice over the two pony hurdles. He went at the obstacles with plenty of dash, getting in a trifle close, but he cleared them without any trouble, and with experience he should make a capable jumper. The Riccarton horses who are to race at the Waimate Hunt meeting will leave on Wednesday for Washdyke. They will go to Waimate on Thursday, returning the same night to Washdyke, where they have engagements on Saturday. The following riding engagements have been made for the Waimate Hunt meeting on Thursday;—L. J. Ellis —Heather Glow, _ Jack Ahoy, and Golden Dart; R. Drinkwater—Anvil and Starlight; H. Turner—Polydora and Fiom; G. 11. Humphries—First View; M. Kirwan— Knock fin.

The Wingatui trainer. A. E. Didham, is at Kiccarton with Valarth and Linguist. They remained, here when they came south after racing at Trentham but have not been near the tracks yet, road exercise being considered enough for them in the meantime. Linguist is engaged at Wnshdyke on Saturday but will not fulfil her engagement. Didham will keep both his charges fresh for the Grand National meeting. P. V. Mason has Variant, Hostis, Lofty, and Roaming in useful work again, and they should be ready to show some form early in the new season. Rejoice, a rising three-year-old filly by Honour from Praise, and a rising tw’o-year-old filly by Iliad from Praise have joined Mason’s team but will not be required for early engagements.

OTAGO HUNT CLUB QUALIFICATION RUN. A qualification run will be held at Halfway Bush to-inorrow afternoon over the properties of Messrs W. Brinsdon. J. Moloney, and J. Cunningham. Followers will meet on Mr Brinsdon’s property at 2 p.m. sharp. HIGH GRADER INJURED (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON. July 22. High Grader strained a muscle when running in the Trentham Hurdle race on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s recent meeting, and he has since been on the easy list.
