EAST COAST RAILWAY

FINANCIAL NEGOTIATIONS POSSIBILITY OF A HITCH (Per United Press Association) GISBORNE, May 11. Acute interest has been aroused regarding the success or otherwise of Mr W. D. Lysnar’s negotiations with the Government for acceptance of the terms offered by London financial groups for the completion and operation of the Gisborne railway. Met. hers of the District Railway Committee are much concerned owing to a report that the negotiations disclose unexpected difficulties, due to the Government raising two issues affecting the / flotation procedure, which Mr Lysnar claims should not . become a stumbling block. Mr Jackson, chairman of the District Railway Committee, has telegraphed the Acting Prime Minister (Mr E. A. Ransom) as follows:—“Mr Lysnar has discussed with me the issues debated _in conversations with you and the Acting Minister of Railways, on the GisborneNapier line. I strongly support his contentions on the two issues raised on behalf of the Government, and concur in his statement that these issues do not affect the project from our point or view. Recognising that Mr Forbes has numerous urgent calls on his attention at Horae, we nevertheless fee! justified in claiming his prompt attention to secure finality on the London offer.”
