FIERCE BATTLE
POLICE AND UNEMPLOYED THEFTS FROM STORES FOLLOW ST. JOHN’S (Newfoundland), May 10. (Received May 11, at 5.5 p.m.) A rioting crowd smashed store windows and stole merchandise to-night after the police and unemployed had engaged during the afternoon in a hand-to-hand battle in front of the Colonial Buildings.
