OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT NORTH TAIERI The North Taieri meet of the Otago Hunt is over, perhaps, the most difficult course used by the club. On Saturday the ground was somewhat sticky owing to rains earlier in the week, and this, coupled with the distance from town, resulted in a smaller number of followers and spectators than has been customary this season. The course followed was the same a* in the point-to-point meeting oi nisi year, and lay over the properties of Messrs Connors, Leishman, and Skinner. The run was about three miles in length, and included 14 very formidable jumps. The notorious “ Beecher’s Brook ” is one which never fails to provide the spectators with numerous thrills. Saturday’s hunt was no exception, and proved a severe test of both mounts and riders. In spite of several spills—some of them very spectacular—nobody was injured, and most starters finished the hunt. Owing to the absence of the master (Mr J. Brunton) and the deputy master (Mr R. Greenslade) .these positions were capably filled for the occasion by Mr B. Hastie (Red Shadow) and Mr S. J. M'Kay (Lady Lou) respectively. The first lady rider to the “ kill ” was Miss M. Smail, on Kim. Others present included the honorary whips, Mr J. Dick, on Rangi, Mr W. Wood, on Rainbow, the huntsman (F. Kydd), on Stately; the whip (D. Binnie). on Samson; Misses S. Thomas (Te Maioha). N. Kerr (Bonny). F. Holmes (Terry), R. M'Kay (Mascot), G. Giiagau u'auclyj, V. Medley (Doreen), F. Mitchell (Heather Bioom), and Messrs W. Hastie (Noeline), G. Humphries (Red Fire), R. James (Grand Refrain), P. Nicholson (Tangi), N. Wood (Blooming Heather), W. Watson (Punch), W. Cooper (King Vidor)-, J. Young (Royal Lady), J. Muirhead (Octane), F. J. Bradley (Toi Toi), R. Wyman-Piper (Gracious Lady), and Master Ken. Russell (Tim).
