SHEEP DISAPPEAR
BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN STOLEN POLICE INVESTIGATIONS FRUITLESS. (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 10. About 150 Romney wethers were apparently stolen recently from the Rotoehu sheep station, near Rotorua, owned by Messrs Lichtenstein, Arnoldson and Co., Ltd., of Auckland. 'For some weeks past the Rotorua police have been making investigations into the disappearance of the sheep, but without result, and now a reward of £25 has been offered for information concerning the loss. "There can be no doubt that it is a case of sheep stealing," said Mr Lichtenstein. "A thorough search has been made of the property, and it is proved quite definitely that the sheep have not become isolated in some remote portion of it, nor can there be any suggestion that they strayed off the station, as the boundaries are all well held. "About six or seven years ago we lost over 300 sheep in one season," Mr Lichtenstein added. "Itis a serious matter, as it is difficult to prevent such thefts from large properties."
