“ It must be remembered,” Mr Hawkins added, “ that among those 35 there were some who were determined, for purposes of political agitation, to be evicted. They constantly refused to accept any assistance from the Government, and indicated clearly that they would take no steps to prevent the eviction. I consider that the figures reveal a state of affairs creditable to the Government.”
