MILTON The hearing of three defended cases was responsible for a lengthy sitting of the Milton Magistrate's Court on Friday before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. Judgment for - plaintiffs. was entered by default in the following claims: — Stewarts, Ltd., v. R. M'Donald, jun., claim £ll 4s 6d (costs, £2 14s); Stewarts, Ltd., v. Cyril Edie, claim £3 19 s 6d (costs, 23s 6d); Stewarts, Ltd., v. F. Jenks, claim £5 8s 3d (costs, 29s 6d). 'ln the defended case in which G. H. Head proceeded against David Ferguson, claiming £7 16s Bd.as balance due tor •work done and goods supplied, the plaintiff was non-suited after evidence had been given by defendant that the account was incurred by his son without his authority while he was an' inmate of the hospital. James Shanks, who was i charged with riding a bicycle without a light, was fined 10s, with costs (10s). .Robins and Co. wer<> charged with cperating a motor lorry, carrying a greater weight than the maximum permitted under the classification. —The defendants were convicted and fined £2, with costs. (£1 19s 6d). With several of its leading players absent, the Balclutha A team journeyed •to Waiwera on' Saturday, and scored a comfortable win by 21 runs and seven ■wickets. Waiwera batted first, and were all out, for 130. The chief scorers were X. Dunn (40), M. Courtier (27), Neale (13), and E. Nicol (12). Swinton was the most successful bowler for the visitors, taking five wickets for 35 runs, and Lennox three for 22. Balclutha replied with 151 for the loss of only three wickets, Lennox batting in good style for 81~~runs. Gold (30, not out), Swinton (15, not out), and A: Stewart (14) also batted well. , Neale, Sutherland, sen., and Courtier captured the wickets for Waiwera. -..*•:.

TAPANUI The adjourned annual meeting of the West Otago School . Sports Association vas held last Wednesday. There was ■n attendance of 22. The president (Mr George Howat) occupied the chair. It ■was decided that this year's sports be held at Heriot on Friday, November 2, the ■ secretary ■■ to write to the Domain Board requesting the use of the grounds, with the right to charge admission, and also to write to the. Otago Education Board requesting that a holiday be granted for all district schools on November, 2. The election of officers resulted as! follows: —Patron, Mr J. D. Ed«arj president.. Mr George Howat: vice-presidents —Messrs H. J. Hay. P. Boylen, N. M'Kitchie, E. Ottrey, W. Graham. G. G. Kerr, J. Reed. J. S. Varcoe, and F. H. Williams; committee — Messrs H. King. N. M'Kitchie, A. Roberts, S. Sim, H. Aitkin. G. Duff, and W. Crawford; secretary, Mr D. C. Gunn; assistant secretary, Miss Low. The various officiala for the 1934 sports gathering were appointed. It was reeolved that the next annual meeting be held at Heriot.
