Sir Michael Grieve Thorburn, who held! his estate of Glenormiston, Innerleithen, Peeblesshire, on freehold on condition that he paid the reigning sovereign a red rose as quit rent when he passed that way, died in August, *ged 82. The Red Rose payment was made by Sir Michael in July, 1923, when he handed King George a red rose on the occasion of the royal visit to the Peeblesshire was memorial.
