' The architect submitted a report on an. application for a new fence along |he boundary of the Dunback School.—lt was decided to obtain a price for the work, the architect being given power to act. The head teacher at Papaka'io applied for renovation work at the residence.—lt--was decided to carry out certain interior work at a cost of £l7, and repairs to the-' paths. .' . • It was decided to find half cost of top;' dressing the asphalt at- the East Taieri" School.—The committee also' applied for' 1 the interior-painting of -the school. —The architect reported • that the' school con- ' sisted of three rooms and was constructed of-brick finished inside with plastered walls and'steel ceilings. ' The building had been erected 26 years ago .and; the interior had never been painted. To renovate the ' two rooms in use.and the.corridor would cost £43—lt was decided to, carry out the.. work,-. ' '■ ; ’ ■ ■ ■ The-teacher at Patearoa reported that a coal'shed-of : sun-dried brick-had been demolished by the wind.—The -architect’ was ; instructed to act with i-cspect to theerection of a new shed... • , >• An application -for. -renovations at the, residence at Balclutha at. a post. of .£5 was granted. 1 • The ,St. Clair .Committee .made a re-. : quest for modern tables and .chairs for the remainder of the infast room—The architect reported that .40 individual tables and chairs would cost £SO, or if the room was furnished with dual infant tables, the cost- would he £42—A pro- . posal' that the work should be done by the board without any contribution from the-;eonimittee wag rejected on; the--hasting-vote of the chairman, and it was subsequently decided to ask; the . committee to find one-third' of- the “cost; " ' V GENERAL. The question of the basis ’on which' hand-washing facilties..,woujd h. e - supplied at schools was discussed-, and it, was decided- to ask the, committees to find half cost. ' ' ;-' :'./ t ’' , A petition from parents asking,that the .Finegand-Balclutha conveyance service should be piqced;on a.more payable basis was presented.- —A grant of £7' 10s in addition.-to. capitation, was. made, .v-r Tenders' for the Springvale ; Ale,xandra. conveyance , service , were received, the lowest being that of - G.-11. Fox, whoquoted £l’ 3s 6(1 per day.—As it w'a* pointed out that the' hoard was not. allowed to pay more than 11s a day, it was decided, to. place the; matter-before the Education Department. ' - It was decided again to distribute the supplementary grant to school committee* as a' ‘subsidy lor fuel and water.".’ . .
