MILITANT ATHEISM
TO THE EDITOE Sir, —" Prof anus Vulgus," in a letter to you, wrote that the Rev. W. W. Averill wa9 riot stating the truth when he said at Auckland last week that Moscow had planned and had put into operation in the Communist societies throughout the world a system of militant Atheism. Anyone who has read the newspapers of late years knows that Mr Averill was speaking the truth, and' putting the case mildly, for it is an insidious plague which needs combatting. Mr Averill did not say that the Moscow brand ,of Atheism is the only one in the world, as "P. V." presumes, in his haste, to make known the existence of his own league. Everyone who studies, knows that Atheists have existed not only for 100 years, but right through the ages, otherwise David would not have written: "The fool hath said in his heart there is no God." —I am, etc, October 11.
