SOME SHAMBLE WINS CUP THE SPRINT TO PALERMO (From Our Special Reporter.) TIMARU, September 20. The Geraldine meeting was opened in dull weather, which developed into heavy rain, and the final part of the card was got off in a heavy downpour. Therewas a good attendance, and at the outset the track provided first class going. Free Air scored comfortably in the Hurdles and Rebel Chief gained an easy win. The Geraldine Cup was a good race, fought Out with a close finish. Manetho was the unlucky horse, ns a bad .run blocked a chance of getting among the money. De Soto just beat Graham Direct , jn the - . Geraldine Trot, in -which -Ironside did not go too level, but lie made amends later in the day. , ■ • Palermo won handsomely, in the •'Sqattera’ -Handicap. / Travenna was a strong fancy for .the Eaukapuka Handicap, 'but after getting the best Of the start faded in the straight, and Colossian stayed on best of the rest of the field. , S.'im -Smith won the Belfield. Handicap in convincing style, as he was going away at the finish from all the opposition bar Red Boa, who was not too well placed in the .early stages.
