DUNEDIN WEST: THE LABOUR NOMINATION
(TO THE EDITOR Sir, — 1 was somewhat surprised at the introductory paragraph in the letter of “Advocate.” If there have been irregularities in any selection ballot, then they should certainly ho investigated and rectified, but for anyone to suggest that any particular candidate should be chosen as a reward for service is certainly not in order. The Labour I’arty nominates its candidates because it believes that they are the men most suited to that phase of the work. Thousands of stalwarts throughout the country are continually doing the work of the Labour Party, and would be insulted if it was suggested that they should be nominated as parliamentary candidates as a reward for their labours. The suggestion is preposterous. Labour might be prevented from putting its policy into operation because it was one short through some suitable candidate having been nominated as a reward for service. The proposition is untenable.—l am, etc., Simple Simon.
