THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

The Waianakarua Institute met on Saturday. Mrs G. Bugden presided. The motto wag “ When God sorts out the weather and sends rain, then rain’s my choice,” and the roll call “A limerick about our institute,” _or “A nursery rhyme.” The competition, “A useful kitchen novelty,” was won by Mrs U. Bugden, with Mrs A. MTverrow second. A demonstration on pine-needle basket making was given by Mrs Ballantyne, of Herbert. Mrs J. Bawd iff was in charge of the social half hour, and the hostess was Mrs Boss MTverrow.

* V- V On Monday evening at the Hillend Hall was celebrated the third birthday of the Pukekoma Institute, and some of the

handwork of the members was displayed, and dancing was indulged in. A “ lucky spot ” waltz was won by Miss EL Rutherford and Mr F. Halluni. A dainty birthday cake, which was baked and iced by Mrs Morgan, had its candles lit by Mrs Gordon, of the Hillend Women’s Division. Mrs Petrie, of the Balclutha Institute then cut the cake.
