ESPIONAGE CASE

A BARONESS IMPLICATED DEATH SENTENCE PASSED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BERLIN, May 11. (Received May 11, at 8 p.m.) A secret military tribunal sentenced Baroness Benita von Berg to death and Captain Georg von Sosnowski to 20 years’ imprisonment on charges of military espionage. The press ignores the case, though it was a sequel to the most sensational post-war spy case. The baroness is a fascinating society woman and a member of the Hohenzollern entourage. Her husband was a distinguished Russian air ace in war time. Captain Sosnowski was a brilliant Polish soldier, socially prominent in Berlin, and a well-known racehorse owner and motorist. He, the baroness, and scores of others well known in theatrical and film circles were arrested in February on charges of espionage for Poland, Germany’s newest ally. The majority, however, were released.
