DEFENCE OF LONDON

SUPER AEROPLANE’S TESTS OVER 250 MILES AN HOUR. LONDON, April SO. At the Royal Air Force testing station, Martlosham Heath, the trials have begun of the Hawker Super Fury—a singleseater interceptor, designed for the defence of London. The Fury, which formerly had a speed of 250 miles an hour, has been completely redesigned. It is hoped that ’.♦’s speed will be considerably increased. The 550 horse-power Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine has been converted for steam cooling, thereby lightening the aeroplane’s load by eliminating the cumbersome radiator. The changes help to streamline the machine, reducing wind resistance, while the chances of a forced landing, due to a bullet through the condenser, which replaces the radiator, are remote.
