PLUNKET SOCIETY

MANIOTOTO SUB-BRANCH ■ ' . , •• . •'>. ‘ y Inclement, weather was. no doubt largely responsible for the poor attendance at the annual meeting ~of the Maniototo sub-branch of the Plunket Society. The president, reported that.the change over from branch to sub-branch which had taken place at the end of June had considerably reduced .the. expenditure, and the efficiency of the work- did not appear to be materially hampered, as Nurse Watt had enlisted 50 new cases in the nine months she had been in the district. It was hoped., therefore, that the members and friends would continue to support the financial side of the work in order that the sub-branch might carry on. in conjunction with the Alexandra and Cromwell districts; The thanks of, the committee were due to Nurse Watt for the keen interest she was taking in her new district. The balance sheet nfc March 31 showed a credit balance of £7O 2s 2d. f Nurse Watt reported that she was well satisfied with the work in the subbranch for the year. There were 55 new babies enrolled for the year.-of which 52 were breast fed. On the-whole she found the mothers keenly: interested. The monthly visits tc the' room in Ranfurly could be more, promising; and she would like. the mothers to understand that the interests of the society extend to the child up to five years of age, . She wished to stress the,necessity for plenty of fresh milk and vegetables in a child’s diet. Sometimes too many sweets were allowed to creep in, which were ruinous to both' teeth and digestion. lit conclusion, the nurse thanked the mothers, the committee, and the Maniototo Hospital authorities for co-operation in furthering the work, and the garage assistants for their favours.

Mrs Mitchell was re-elected president for the ensuing year, v.v ;
