MONKEY WITH A GUN
MISHAF AT A CIRCUS During a turn at Wirth’s Circus in Sydney on the night of April 21, in which a monkey fired a rifle, an attendant, Charles Broomhead, was wounded in the back by the bullet. The wound was not serious, and after being treated at a hospital Broomhead left the institution. The performance was under the control of Madame Prince. The monkey was t'' fire a small-calibre rifle, which was attached to a swivel on a chair. The target was a balloon about 15 yards away from the monkey. Madame Prince sighted the rifle and the monkey fired, but he twisted it, and the bulM missed the balloon. The bullet went through a board partition, which had been placed in position to stop the bullets, and struck the attendant.
