LADIES’ BOWLING

SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP The Singles Championship conducted on the Logan Park greens by the Otago Ladies’ Bowling Association was concluded yesterday under ideal conditions.' The final was contested between Mrs Thompson (Logan Park) and Mrs Higginson (St. Kilda), the former gaining a substantial victory by 23 points to 10. Mrs Thompson started with two ones and a three, and Mrs Higginson with a single on the fourth head. Two points to each player, made the score 7—3 in favour of Mrs Thompson. On the seventh head Mrs Higginson was’lying three close shots, but Mrs Thompson put the kitty into the ditch with her last bowl and scored two, making the score 9 —3. Three singles improved Mrs Higginson’s position, but on the ienth head Mrs Thompson responded with a two. On the twelfth head Mrs Higginson was lying two good shots, when once again Mrs Thompsons put the kitty into the ditch for a single, making the score 12—8 in her favour. A two to Mrs Higginson improved her position, but a brace and a four made the score read 18—8 against her at the fifteenth head. She scored two at the sixteenth, but Mrs Thompson put the issue beyond doubt by scoring a three and then a two, the game ending on the eighteenth head with the score 23 —10 in Mrs Thompson’s favour. Mrs Thompson was definitely the better player on the day, and her fast shots turned the game in her favour at a critical stage. Scores:— FIFTH ROUND. Two Life.
