LADIES’ SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP \ Almost perfect weather conditions favoured the opening yesterday of the annual Singles Championship conducted by the Otago Ladies’ Bowling Association. The association’s greens at Logan Park were very fast, and as a result the breeze interfered slightly with play, making conditions somewhat tricky. There were 36 competitors, representing 11 clubs, and the play was on the two-life system. The players were divided into two sections for the first two rounds, but from that stage they were grouped together. Four rounds had been completed by the time the fading light brought play to a conclusion for the day, and by that time Mesdames Seymour and Gregory were the only two-lifers remaining. These two will play off to-day, when the finals among the one-lifers will also be decided. Results: — SECTION A. First Round. Miss Gillies (Dunedin) 18, Mr s Thompson (Logan Park) 13.
