SUCCESSFUL EVENING MEETING The weekly meeting of the Otago Athletic and Cycling. Club was held at the Caledonian Grounds last evening before a good attendance.- The weather was fine, and the track was in good .order, but a cold wind from the bay end of the grounds was unfavourable to fast times in the- running events. A feature of the meeting was the consistent tiding of W. Hogg, who won the three cycling handicap races. C. Hansen, the ex-ahiateur, showed a glimpse of his old form in winning the One Mile Scratch Race.. In the running events De Courcy ran well to win the 75 Yards Handicap. This race provided one of the best finishes of the meeting, only inches separating the three placed men. The 120 Yards Handicap was won by G. Lawrence, who hung on to win bv a foot. N. Kean came up well over the last 20 yards, but was unable to head the winner. Showing plenty of dash N. Pledger easily won the 440 Yards Handicap. Wood, the scratch man. left his run too late, and was only able to get up to fourth place. Popular items on the programme were the boys’ and girls’ races, which drew good elitriee. ■ The meeting was ably controlled by the following officials: —Referee, Mr G.‘ M'Queen; starter. Mr W. Henderson; timekeeper. Mr A. D. Macartney; an-uoun-er, Mr E. M’Queen: judges, Messrs R. H. Gordon and'E. M’Queen; superintendent of dancing, Mr W. R. MacPherson. Traill Memorial'Cup. First Heat.—W. Hogg (60yds) 1 T. Brosnan (scr) 2. I. Guthrie (80yds) 3. Five starters. At the bell Guthrie and Hogg led the backmarkers by 10 yards. Coming into the straight the field was about in a line, and in a good finish Hogg came through to win by four lengths. Two lengths separated second and third. Tiffie, Imin 5 4-Spec. ■ Second Heat.—G. Heasley (40yds) 1, R. Wileon-Pyne (30yds) 2, A. J. Brown (30yds) 3. Four starters. Going down the back in the last lap Hensley went to tie front and .was not beaded. Hansen (30yds) 1, R. Wilson-Pyne (50yds), 2, G. Heasley (100yds) 3. Five starters. With two laps to go the back-markers had caught the field. Hansen led into the straight and w.ent on to win by half a wheel. Five yards’separated second and third. Time, 2min 26sec. Second Heat. —A. H. Brown (100yds) 1, T. Brosnan (30yds) 2 ; W. Hogg (90yds) 3., Seven starters. With" two laps to go the field was bunched. At the bell Hogg led, with the field well up. Brown ... 3 With two laps to go the three placed men were 20 yards ahead of Hansen and Wilson-Pyne. , The 'front-markers kept up a good pace, and at the bell the position was unchanged, Heasley led into the Straight, but in a good finish Hogg came through to win by inches. At the bell Hogg Jed Hansen and Wilson-Pyne into the straight-, Hansen came throuch with a great burst to win by 10 yards from 1 Wilson-Pyne, who was 15 yards ahead of Hogg.
