AN EMPHATIC DENIAL

INSINUATION AGAINST DEPARTMENT. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 13. There appear to have been reports circulating in some parts of the Dominion that officers of the State Advances Department have advised mortgagors to pay instalments of interest due to the department rather than rates to the local bodies. One of these reports was to the effect that there had been several cases of the kind in Onehunga, When the statements were referred to the superintendent of the State Advances Department (Mr E. 0. Hales) that official gave the reports a flat denial and said that, on the contrary, instructions had been given to officers against the offering of advice to any mortgagor which might be liable to such an interpretation.
