No fewer than 646 new factories were established in Britain in 1932. They are providing employment for 45,000 people. Extensions were built to 166 workshops, making employment for another 5000 workers. London heads the list with 251 factories. Then comes Lancashire with 115. In the Midlands there were 96, in South and South-west England 62, Eastern Counties 44, Yorkshire 36, Scotland 20, and the North-East Coast and Wales 11 each. Factories producing wearing apparel extended most. There were 144 new factories! and 14 extensions in this category. Half-a-dozen new tanneries and 14 new factories making leather goods indicate the share of leather. There was considerable development in the tanning industry, and 14 new factories were established and three extended. Miss Andree Saulais 2s only 14, and she is blind, but ■aka has won a shorthand typing contests d’aJany-sous-Bois, near Paris.
